FAQs and Size Guide

SIZE GUIDE

To ensure a perfect fit, we may ask for your head measurement. Use a soft measuring tape (in inches or centimetres) to measure the circumference where your hat would sit — approximately 1–2 cm above your ears. Please refer to our diagram above for guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to make an appointment?

While visitors are welcome to drop in, we recommend scheduling an appointment for a bespoke hat to ensure you receive our full attention during your consultation. Please call the studio at +44 (0)20 7839 8927 or email us on info@racheltrevormorgan.com.

What can I expect from my appointment at the Atelier?

During your appointment, Rachel or a member of our team will discuss the event for which you are wearing your hat or headpiece. We will suggest a selection of shapes to help you determine what feels most comfortable and flattering. Once a design is chosen, we will decide on colours and trims together.

Your first appointment typically lasts 30–60 minutes. A 50% deposit is requested at this stage, and a follow-up fitting is arranged to review trims and colours before your piece is finished and ready for collection. This ensures you are completely satisfied with the final design and allows time for any final adjustments.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

If you have chosen your outfit, we recommend bringing it to your consultation so you can try on hats and visualise the complete look. This also helps us with colour matching or selecting complementary contrasts.

If you are unable to bring your outfit, a swatch or colour reference (for example, a piece of fabric, a magazine sample, or a colour card) will allow us to create a bespoke piece that perfectly coordinates with your attire.

Can you suggest hat options if I send you pictures of my outfit?

Our team is always on hand to guide you in selecting the perfect hat or headpiece for your outfit. You may send photographs via Whatsapp or through our social media channels, and we will suggest shapes, colours, and trims that complement your attire and the occasion.

If you are short on time, we can also send images of available off-the-peg pieces from our showroom for your consideration.

Can you recreate a hat I have seen elsewhere or design something completely new?

We do not reproduce designs created by other milliners and always recommend consulting the original creator for an exact copy.

However, our atelier can create a bespoke design inspired by the style you love, making it uniquely your own. We can also craft something entirely new, collaborating with you during a consultation to explore fabric swatches, inspiration imagery, and design ideas. Every detail — from shape and colour to trims — is considered carefully, ensuring your piece reflects your vision.

What is the lead time for a Royal Ascot hat?

Bespoke orders typically require 4–6 weeks from consultation to completion. This allows our team to craft your hat or headpiece with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the highest standard of workmanship.

We recommend booking well in advance, particularly during peak seasons such as Royal Ascot, to ensure your bespoke piece is ready in time for the event.

In the event of a hat emergency, we can make to tighter schedules. Get in touch with the team to discuss timings on info@racheltrevormorgan.com.

How do I measure my head size?

To ensure a perfect fit, measure the circumference of your head where your hat will sit — approximately 1–2 cm above your ears. Use a soft measuring tape in either inches or centimetres.

If you need guidance, please refer to the diagram above. Accurate measurements allow us to craft a bespoke piece that sits comfortably and elegantly.

Can I return or exchange a bespoke hat?

Bespoke hats and headpieces are made-to-order and tailored specifically for each client, so they cannot be returned or exchanged.

If you require minor adjustments, such as re-trimming or resizing, our atelier offers a re-trimming service to ensure your piece continues to meet your needs. Please contact the studio to discuss any alterations — our team is always happy to assist.

How do I store and care for my hat?

To preserve the beauty and shape of your hat, we recommend storing it in its original box with tissue paper for support — particularly for delicate designs with veils or trims.

Felt hats should be left to air dry on a flat surface, away from direct heat such as radiators. A soft brush can be used to lift the fibres and maintain their texture.

Panama hats can be gently wiped with a soft cloth. To prevent the straw from cracking, you may leave the hat in a steamy bathroom for a short period — the gentle humidity helps maintain its shape and freshness.

I live abroad, can I order a bespoke hat online?

Yes. Our team will guide you through the bespoke process from overseas. To start, we ask you to browse our collection and select a few styles for which we can provide a quote.

If you wish to commission a bespoke piece, we will work with you to match or complement your outfit. We will guide you in providing a fabric swatch or colour reference, your hair colour, and your head measurement, and discuss any design details such as trims or sizes. Payment can be arranged securely by payment link, and we will confirm delivery details for your location.
