Royal Ascot Style Guide 2020

1st June 2020 by Sophie Dallison

We are delighted to present our contribution to the 2020 Royal Ascot Style Guide in association with Cunard.

The Royal Ascot Style Guide is designed to advise and inspire guests with what to wear to the Royal Meeting. Ascot continues to recognise key trends in the ever-evolving world of fashion. For 2020 the Royal Enclosure Style Guide features British brands, paying homage to the incredible talent and style found across the nation.

For the first time in history, Members of the Royal Enclosure will be permitted to wear navy morning dress, alongside the traditional black and grey styles, as the racecourse continues to respond to emerging trends in harmony with its much-loved Dress Code.

This year, Rachel Trevor-Morgan featured in the Queen Anne enclosure style guide with a SS20 favourite – our Red Boater with Twist.

Launching the 2020 bridal collection

7th May 2020 by Sophie Dallison

Spring 2020 sees the relaunch of Rachel Trevor Morgan’s Bridal headdress collection.

From timeless classics to bold designs for the modern bride, each piece is hand-made from start to finish in their St James’s atelier.

Key pieces include high halo headbands either feathered or strewn with organza petals. Wide bands in lace with beading. Signature flowers are used throughout on pillboxes and crescents with birdcage veils. With a nod to vintage classics, the lace caplet and lily of valley pieces hark back to a romantic era of days gone by, all with a modern twist.

Rachel’s designs are bold but not overpowering, they are soft and feminine, high romance. Shapes are hand-blocked and flowers expertly made with petals being dyed, cut and shaped by hand. They use fine silks, lace and tulle, hand-beading and crystals. This process ensures each piece is tailored to a bride’s own vision.

The collection is available to order from the showroom in St James’s. We are very happy to work on individual special commissions, get in touch with the studio on 02078398927 or info@racheltrevormorgan.com to enquire.

Making visors for the NHS

1st May 2020 by Sophie Dallison

You may be familiar with the photo of NHS workers in their PPE visors hand-made by a group of volunteers. It circulated in the press or on social media and it has become the poster for the #VisorArmy effort to produce PPE equipment for our frontline workers. During lockdown, the RTM team got involved and worked from home to produce over 2,000 PPE visors for NHS workers.

#VisorArmy are a community-based volunteer group making medical visors at home, for use by ICU doctors and nurses across London hospitals.

It is the brainchild of ICU Consultant Deborah Braham and managed accross London by hub coordinators. The protective visors are made using a glue gun and 3 simple components: acetate sheets, foam padding and elastic. These Visors are vital protective equipment for ICU staff, and help save their life, every time they are worn.

A Small Hat Project

1st June 2014 by Jo Hutchinson

What’s not to love about this project… In April 2014 we were contacted by Legoland Windsor with a fabulous commission, a range of miniature hats for the Royal Family at Miniland, which is part of Legoland, Windsor.

In an exclusive make over for Royal Ascot, seven head turning 10cm high regal Lego models including The Queen and The Duchess of Cambridge, wore our original designs; each one created by hand in exquisite miniature detail.   Designing for a tiny LEGO Monarch was an entirely new experience. We had to be very creative about how we scaled our production down; we used the top of a perfume bottle as a mould for Her Majesty’s hat and stitching so tiny really needed special care and attention.

The Miniland LEGO Royal line up comprised Her Majesty the Queen, The Duchess of Cornwall, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, Zara Philips, The Duchess of Cambridge and her mother Carole Middleton. They were then situated in front of Miniland’s miniature recreation of Buckingham Palace for guests to admire during Royal Ascot Week.

The Queen wore a colourful straw hat in bright yellow with tiny hand painted silk flowers.  The Duchess of Cornwall’s dove grey side sweeping picture hat was decorated with minute feathers swirling forming an elegant circular design whilst the Duchess of Cambridge wore a Royal Blue straw slice hat with two miniature quill feathers.   Zara Philips’ metallic disc shaped hat was topped with tiny maroon red feathers in an arrow formation whilst her cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie wore a white beret with jay feathers and a green feather hat.
